A Japanese in Colorado

One of our favorite foods is Curry!

Indian and Thai Curry must be more popular than Japanese Curry in America.(I think...)
Japanese curry is different from those Indian or Thai Curry, it's thicker andit has more taste.
(I, personally, love thai Curry so much, but I could never have been successful to make one.)

Japanese curry is much easier to make

We use sauce mix.(Vermont Curry, Java curry or other kind.)As long as you can obtain these sauce mix, anybody can make Japanese curry. you don't have to collect all the spices.(pics are below)

Have you ever seen it before?
Have you every tried yet?

If no, Please give it a try. It's good~

Today, I used
Sticky rice (it can be other kind of rice as you like)
4 1/2 cups of water
2 potatoes
1 carrot
1 onion
0.5lb thin sliced beef

Japanese curry sauce mix.(Vermont Curry, Java curry or other kind.), which looks like this

If you can find an Asian store, Japanese market, THEY MUST HAVE THESE.
Some Wal-mart carries these at Asian aisle as well.
(If you are in COS, try Korean markets, but make sure to get Japanese Curry mix, not Korean one. they taste different)

These are the basic ingredients, but you can add mushrooms, broccoli, Califlowers, any vegetales doesn't have strong flavore.
I love the curry woth lots of vegetables in it. so I always add mix vegetables.

from Kings Sooper (I love the store)

Instead of thin sliced beef, you can use Chicken, or Pork, or even Seafood mix.

First, Wash vegetables and cut in pieces

Boil water and put these vegetables in the hot water until they get soften.

Add meat (or Seafood mix)

Skim the broth.

Now, you put the sauce mix.
when you open the box, they are in a package

and when you open that package , they look like this
curry5.jpg

I recommend to use at least six of these blocks,(which is contained in one package, if you get a big box.)
But, It's always a smart thing to do to follow the direction on the box~

Occasionaly stir them gently until the sauce mix blocks get completely gone.

On the plate, put some rice first, then, put curry.

And ENJOY

It's one of a Japanese home cook. So every Japanese has different way to make it.
If you have a Japanese friend, then ask her how she makes it.
Sure enough, it will taste better.
